Gutter Guard Systems Designed for Austin-Area Roofs and Weather
Premium Gutters Inc. has you covered
Any gutter can carry runoff from your roof away from your home—but only a few can do it without getting clogged by leaves and debris. That’s where gutter guards come in. Designed to keep out unwanted debris while allowing water to flow freely, gutter guards like the LeafBlaster Pro offer a smarter way to protect your home.
Why Gutters Clog So Fast in Central Texas
Most of our clogged gutter calls come in April and May. That’s when live oaks drop their old leaves and their tassels at the same time. The tassels cause most of the trouble. They’re small and stringy, so they slip through wide screens and knit into a wet mat that stops water cold. Ashe juniper, the tree everyone here calls cedar, adds fine debris all winter. Asphalt shingles shed grit after every hailstorm, and pecans and cedar elms bring a second leaf drop in the fall.
Once that mix settles in a gutter, a heavy Texas downpour spills over the front edge and lands right against your foundation. Our clay soil swells when it’s soaked and shrinks when it dries, and overflowing gutters make those swings much worse for a slab. Standing water also breeds mosquitoes and slowly rots the fascia boards behind the gutter.
Cleaning it yourself means climbing a ladder several times a year. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates about 164,000 ladder injuries a year. A good gutter guard keeps you off the ladder for most of the year.
How LeafBlaster Pro Gutter Guards Help
The LeafBlaster Pro features a fine stainless steel mesh that blocks leaves, pine needles, roof grit, and pests from entering your gutters, while still allowing water to pass through. This helps maintain optimal water flow and prevents backups that can cause costly damage to your home.
While no leaf protection system is completely maintenance-free, LeafBlaster Pro greatly reduces the frequency and severity of gutter clogs. We recommend clearing off the top of the guards once or twice a year to ensure they continue functioning effectively. This minimal maintenance extends the life of your gutters and keeps them working properly year-round.
Cleaner Water, Faster Tank Refills
If you use a rainwater tank, LeafBlaster Pro has additional benefits. By filtering out debris before it enters your system, it ensures cleaner water and helps your tank refill more efficiently during rainfall. You’ll enjoy a more reliable water supply—with fewer contaminants.

Premium Gutters Inc. has you covered
Investing a gutter guard can also help you prevent premature rust and corrosion in your gutters. When leaves and debris accumulate in your gutters, they create a moist environment that promotes rust and corrosion. Our LeafBlaster Pro guards act as a barrier, keeping your gutters clean and dry, and extending their lifespan.
Don’t let overflowing gutters put your home at risk. This gutter guard will stop blockages and prevent water from damaging your foundation or entering your home. With that, you can be sure that removing the leaves from your gutter is no longer needed, as this gutter guard can easily deal with that. Do gutter guards work with live oak tassels?
Stainless micro mesh handles them well, and that’s the main reason we use it. Live oaks drop their tassels in spring, usually from March into May, and often at the same time as their old leaves. Tassels are thin and stringy. They slide through the holes in standard screens and wrap around anything they touch inside the gutter. A few weeks of that can fill a gutter faster than a full fall of leaves.
With LeafBlaster Pro, the tassels land on top of the mesh and stay there. Most of them dry out and blow away, and whatever is left comes off with a light brushing. The inside of the gutter stays clear, so water keeps moving even during the heaviest part of the spring drop.
Can you install gutter guards on my existing gutters?
In most cases, yes. Before we recommend anything, we inspect the gutters you already have. We check that the seams are sealed, the hangers are tight, the gutters slope toward the downspouts and the fascia boards behind them are solid. If everything is in good shape, we clean the gutters and install the guards directly on them.
If your gutters are old, sagging or too small for your roof, we’ll show you what we found and explain your options. Putting a quality guard on a failing gutter wastes your money, because the gutter will still leak or pull away from the house. When replacement makes sense, we can install new seamless gutters and the guards together.
Will gutter guards handle heavy Texas rain?
Yes, when the system is set up correctly. With micro mesh, water clings to the mesh surface and drops straight through into the gutter, even during a hard downpour. What usually limits drainage in a big storm is the size and number of downspouts, not the guard itself.
During every install we make sure the downspouts are clear and able to handle the roof area they drain. On large roof sections, or where two roof slopes meet in a valley and water comes off fast, we may recommend a larger downspout or an extra one. That’s also where micro mesh has an edge over reverse curve guards. Reverse curve guards depend on water following a curved lip, and in very heavy rain the water can shoot past the edge and land next to your foundation.
Are gutter guards maintenance free?
No gutter guard is truly maintenance free, and we’d rather be upfront about that than surprise you later. Oak tassels and pollen can collect on top of any mesh, especially in spring. The difference is where the debris ends up. With LeafBlaster Pro it sits on the surface, where it’s easy to reach, instead of rotting inside the gutter where you can’t see it.
For most homes, a quick pass with a soft brush or a leaf blower once or twice a year keeps everything flowing. The best times are right after the spring oak drop and again in late fall. It’s also worth checking that your downspout outlets at ground level aren’t blocked by mulch or grass clippings. If you’d rather not deal with any of it, our gutter maintenance plans include regular checkups, so you never have to get on a ladder.
What is the best gutter guard for Austin homes?
For most homes in the Austin area we recommend stainless steel micro mesh. The debris that fills gutters here is smaller and finer than in many parts of the country. Live oak tassels, oak pollen, cedar debris and shingle grit after a hailstorm all pass through wide screens easily. Once that material gets inside the gutter, it packs into a wet layer that blocks the downspouts.
Micro mesh has openings small enough to stop all of it while rainwater flows straight through. Stainless steel also holds up in our heat. Plastic screens tend to crack and warp after a few Texas summers. That’s why LeafBlaster Pro is the guard we install on nearly every home we quote. If your roof has very few trees nearby, a simpler guard may be enough, and we’ll tell you that honestly during your estimate.
How long does gutter guard installation take?
Most homes are finished in a single day. Larger homes, two story homes and jobs that need gutter repairs first can take a little longer, and we’ll tell you ahead of time if we expect that.
On install day we start by flushing out the gutters and downspouts and fixing any leaks or loose hangers we found during the estimate. Then we fit the guards to each run, cutting them carefully around corners and valleys so there are no gaps for debris to slip through. Before we leave, we run water through the system and walk the finished job with you. It helps to move cars and patio furniture away from the walls of the house so our crew can set ladders safely.
